Thornton History

Has anybody heard anything about the weird planes last night ?

I've had an enquiry about the old gym at Burn Naze. It used to be pub known as the 'Knife and Dagger' (really invites you in doesn't it !) but was that it's real name or just what the locals called it. It isn't on the 1901 census and first appears on the 1912 map but with no name attached. Anybody any ideas?

The answer to the quiz was ... behind Seniors Chippy

In 1st place: Mike
(only correct guesser this week)

Don't forget it is Thornton Farmer's Market tomorrow folks

  1. Its on the carpark at Marsh Mill (Fleetwood Road end) .. prefer the one at Thornton Centre myself. Who ever decided to put chips into styrofoam containers wants shooting - I hate sweaty fish !

  5. I'm glad nobody slagged off the chippy in 'the village' as we always called it...or Thornton Centre, as everyone appears to be calling it now. My sister works there. You can miss her...little with specs. She'll be very pleased it's got the thumbs up.

  7. Hi Brian

Is your sister the more mature lady who used to work in the chippy before it was made over .. if it is she knows me.

  8. Very probably. Mind you, everyone's mature by comparison to me. She's only very short...about two foot six I think, with dark curly hair. (It runs in the family.) And she's called Janet. That last bit of information might help identify her. She's worked there a good long time now, I know that.

  12. Hi

If you are local then Fleetwood and Blackpool Library have microfiche and film copies of the evening gazette which always covers the gala well. If you are not local then you can contact the gazette through their website www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk

There is a great site called www.rossallbeach.co.uk which has old postcards and pictures which might have something. Or you could ask on the Thornton Cleveleys Forum in the links on here. There are some people with good photos on there.

    Hope this helps
