Well 36 hours without internet was certainly an eye opener .. unfortunately my tv is through BT as well so only had 5 channels - the shock !!
I've had an enquiry about a large white painted house that stood on the corner of School Road and Station Road in Thornton. It was still standing in the late 1960's and had a fantastic orchard, out buildings and a conservatory with a grape vine growing in it. Can anybody remember it or even better does anyone have any photos ?
Now for the quiz
Where in Thornton am I ?

At that time there was a laurel hedge between the road and the pavement.the other white house a bit further down Station Rd was another Lodge Farm it was rumoured that a male in the family would die within a short time of moving in,
ReplyDeleteHi James
ReplyDeletethanks for that. Have been looking at the map and was it on the opposite corner to where the rest home is now and set back from the road a bit ?
Melanie,
ReplyDeleteBeen there, had that discussion.
This is possibly the place that you and James are talking about...possibly.
Hi, yes thats the place, note the laurel hedge in the photo to the right of the horse and rider,
ReplyDeleteI have it on the best authority (My Wife) that the owners son Martin Fish and his wife Irene lived in the white cottage on the corner
I missed Brians post there and was getting confused about what picture. Oh well at least you answered it.
ReplyDeleteI have had a correct answer for the quiz by the way.
ReplyDeleteJames,
ReplyDeleteThe fact that it was a market gardeners would also explain why it's referred to as a 'Nursery' on the old map. It all makes sense to me now.
I'll be giving the answer to the quiz tomorrow night so get your thinking caps on.
