We have had this strange stone in ours for over 20 years and has been used from everything from a door stop to a base for a rotary clothes dryer (sorry Brian). It turns out it is the top half of a Roman beehive quern stone as identified by our very own Brian from Wyre Archaeology. Now I don't think this one came from Thornton itself but there might be another one out there that did. So I wonder what else is lurking around in the gardens and sheds of Thornton .. have a mooch and let us know.Don't forget the quiz tomorrow night folks.

i refuse to go into our shed after finding a wasp,s nest in there last summer.
ReplyDeleteI'm right behind you on that one. I don't mind spiders or any bugs but wasps make me run round and scream like a girl.
ReplyDeleteStand still and it won't sting you is a lie !!
Melanie,
ReplyDeleteIt really ought to be in a museum should that...or indoors at any rate. I know just the place if you fancy giving it a good home...a certain Wyre Archaeology display cabinet in the Fylde Country Life Museum...or alternatively, in the big cardboard box under my bed.
I will mwntion it to him Brian .. its his birthday today so he is out on the town (well Cleveleys).
ReplyDeleteActually, I'm just jealous. I want one. It'd be better than the blender we used to have.
