I've had an e-mail today about the Last Orders Pub which is interesting. It's recently been purchased by Amber Pubs and when it is reopened it is going to be called The Sandyforth. I think that's great and as the emailer said it will come full circle back to it's (almost) original name which was of course Sandyforth Bank.. I really like that. It re-opens on July 31st.
Now for the Quiz ...
Where in Thornton Am I ? ... and the answer is ...
Somerfield in Thornton Centre and the windmill used to be just inside the doors of the old precinct. To quote James I think you all should go to specsavers this week. LOL.
In 1st and only place .. Mike
A
i used to like the old precinct, but that,s just me i hate change {most of the time}.
ReplyDeletei hope it is going to be called the sandyforth , cause i suggested that and theres 99 free pints on it !!!!!!! you had to put your name idea in a box at the end of the bar . regards andy
ReplyDeleteHi Andy .. it definately is.
ReplyDeleteThe bar has been moved back along the far wall. they are levelling the eating area and putting in a wood floor throughout so I have been told. I hope you do get the 99 free pints and well done for suggesting it in the first place.
PS .. Russ says hi ;-)
ReplyDeleteHi Mike
ReplyDeleteI used to love the old hardware shop right next to Kwicksave where you could buy just about anything. There was also a cheap shop across the road where Mimo's is now. It's a shame people have to go to Cleveleys for nearly everything now unless it's a takeaway.
When I win the lottery I'm going to reinstate Thornton as a proper village centre again with local produce for local people. When I get back from Necker Island that is :-D
Always on the look out for Coco drivers coming from the right at that corner, most treat Victoria Rd as the main Rd with right of way no matter who else is on the Mini Roundabout
ReplyDeletehi melanie, not just takeaway,s there are no banks anymore and yes that hardware shop wasa good place for all kinds of stuff.
ReplyDeleteTalking about the last orders i know for a fact that a lot of people won,t like the re-furb there as they like the fact that it,s a drinkers pub, no music , no food, just beer and being able to drink it without loud music. for myself i could care less {getting old} but some people seem to prefer it as it is. i spend my drinking time {not that much i may add} in the gardners .
ReplyDeleteWhy not go full circle, turn it into a theme Pub and have the bar staff dressed as Nuns?
ReplyDeleteHi Mike
ReplyDeleteI think if they are smart they are just doing it up and not really changing it. We don't go to the pub anymore much as when we get our drinks we compare it to what we could have got from the shop. 2 rounds and we could have got a bottle of vodka which would last us a lot longer.
Hi James
I actually think the workers who drink there would appreciate that .. not that Russ would be going anymore ;-)
