I spent a lot of time in the Illawalla or 'the walla' as we knew it. The only place you could go out on your own and know you would know someone when you got there. sadly missed.
Born and brought up 100yds away,(Hornbys Corner) must have gone down Illawalla coach house lane thousand of times'The railing put me off, used to be a 10ft hedge (why do they keep changing things)
Re old buildings. how about the old pig sty on the left just past Illawalla's back gates? used to shelter in there from the rain (A Barn Owl and Me), whilst waiting for the tide to go out so i could go home
Congrats on Go Buzz, Melanie :) Love your photos of your area, they're great snapshots that capture the character which touristy postcards miss. Just found the answer to my "What was the Illawalla?" question HERE LOL.
Further to your article on the Mill,dont know if it helps, I've been told that there were two cottages in the millyard (Behind the Mill)My wifes uncle's wife's family name of Abbot-Hull, lived in one in the 1930s/1940s one one of the cottages kept a smallholding, Kept poultry ect;

ReplyDeleteMelanie i am pleased that go buzz is working for you, i know it must have been a lot of work to set up.
